Head Coach Pat Hanlon Announces Retirement


Cheney, Wash. -  The Eastern Washington University Eagles have announced that Pat Hanlon, has informed the team of his decision to retire after two years as head coach of the team. 

Coach Hanlon has been coaching for 27 years, including the last 10 at EWU. First joining as the head coach of the women's club before becoming an assistant and eventual head coach of the men's club. 

"This decision is not one I have made without a tremendous amount of thought and emotion." Hanlon said about his departure "I have enjoyed my time with EWU Hockey, particularly the past two years. With two championships, NPHC and now co-regular season champions in the PAC 8, EWU Hockey is once again prominent in the ACHA. It' is simply time to hand up the whistle. The future is very bright for this program"

Club Sports Coordinator Travis Allen had this to say of the announcement "We can't thank coach Hanlon enough for everything he has done not only for our program, but for the past 10 years here at EWU. Coach Hanlon, has been a staple for EWU Hockey and his presence will be missed."

The Eagles have begun their search for a new head coach with Allen adding "We're looking for a head coach that can develop and lead our hockey club and help us accomplish our future goals of growth and success." Coaching applicants can apply online at www.EWUEaglesHockey.com.


The EWU Eagles Hockey team is an ACHA D2 club program that plays in the PAC8 Conference. The team plays all home games at the EWU URC. Tickets for all home games can be purchased at the door, EWU students with a valid student ID card will receive free admission.
